• 2003 Syngenta Crop Protection Award of the Society of Nematologists (SON) in recognition for excellence in research in the field of Nematology.
• 2002 Julius- Kühn-Award of the German Phytopathological Society (DPG) for outstanding contributions to the field of Phytopathology.
   

Research interests:

interactions between cyst nematodes and their hosts with particular emphasis on the soybean cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines) and the sugar beet cyst nematode (H. schachtii).  

root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne spp; characterizing the signal transduction events leading to successful nematode establishment and parasitism.
