   Cyartonematidae Tchesunov, 1990

Type genus of the family: Cyartonema Cobb, 1920

• A family of free-living marine nematodes.

• Body comparatively slender.

• Cuticls smooth.

• Pharynx with muscular anterior, slender isthmus and posterior with pharyngeal gland cells

• Secretory pore posterior to nerve ring. Renette cell present

• Several pseudocoelomocytes of which two are prominent, present along pre-gonad midgut.

• Blind digestive system without rectum and anus in female.

• Female didelphic, ovaries reflexed

• Males diorchic.             
  

Note: Tchesunov, 1990 split the family Aegialoalaimidae Lorenzen, 1981 into three separate families:

1. Aegialoalaimidae

2. Cyartonematidae for Cyartonema and Paraterschellingia

3. Diplopeltoididae for Diplopeltoides
