Morphology and Anatomy:

Females:
  • Monodelphic, prodelphic, overy well=developed, reflexed to posterior of vulva
  • Posuterine sac short, less than 1 vbd long.

Males:

  • Monorchic

  • Gubernaculum irelatively large

  • Nine pairs of genital papillae, the first two pairs located far anterior to the cloacal slit.

Distribution:

Diplogastrellus metamasius was discovered associated with, and described from, West Indian sugarcane weevil, Metamasius hemipterus frorm Florida and Costa Rica (Kanazaki et al., 2008).

Feeding:

Microbial feeding; grows well on bacterial cultures.

Biology and Ecology:

The relationship with the sugarcane weevil is probably one of phoresy, transporation to new food resources. Inoculations of Galleria mellonella did not result in mortality of the insect (Kanzaki et al., 2008).
