Morphology and Anatomy:

Members of the subfamily Diplolaimellinae of the Monhysteridae are characterized by a double buccal cavity at some point during their juvenile or adult stages, while those in the other subfamily, the Monhysterinae, have a single tapered buccal cavity.

Females:

  • Monodelphic,  Ovary branch outstretched but not reaching cardia, on the right-hand side of intestine.
  • Postvulval uterine sac absent.
  • Vagina directed anteriorly; vulva located posterior to midbody,.

Males:  

  • Monorchic, testis on right-hand side of intestine.
  • Spicules paired and symmetrical, straight and relatively thin conoid, 0.7-0.8 abd long
  •  No pre- or post- cloacal sensilla or supplements.

Distribution:

Described from from the gill chambers of Scylla serrata (Forsskal), a land crab, in the island of New Caledonia (southwest Pacific Ocean).
