Gammarinema scyllae Westerman, Ahmed & Holovachov, 2022

Synonyms:

Members of the subfamily Diplolaimellinae of the Monhysteridae are characterized by a double buccal cavity at some point during their juvenile or adult stages, while those in the other subfamily, the Monhysterinae, have a single tapered buccal cavity.

Body cylindrical, ventrally curved upon fixation, tapering slightly towards both extremities
Cuticle smooth; somatic sensilla present, small setiform; body pores absent; lateral alae absent.
Cephalic region flattened; six equal lips surrounding mouth opening; inner labial sensilla small, on anterior surface of lips.
Outer labial sensilla small setiform, at base of lip region; cephalic sensilla papilliform, at same level as labial sensilla.
Amphideal opening round, located at level of stoma base. Ocelli present.
Buccal cavity conoid, cheilostom and gymnostom cylindrical and very short; stegostom funnel-shaped (conoid anteriorly and tubular posteriorly), with weakly cuticularised walls.
Posterior buccal chamber poorly defined, denticles indistinct, edges of pharyngeal radii visible.
Pharynx uniformly muscularized along entire length, gradually widening posteriorly, without any valves or bulbs.
Cardia small and conical. Intestinal lumen well developed, progaster present.
Secretory-excretory system and pore present, 1-2 x labial diam from anterior; renette cell located along anterior part of intestine, e
Tail cylindrical, with broadly rounded terminus. Caudal glands in tail, opening via a common non-cuticularized spinneret.

	Females: Monodelphic, Ovary branch outstretched but not reaching cardia, on the right-hand side of intestine. Postvulval uterine sac absent. Vagina directed anteriorly; vulva located posterior to midbody,. Ref: Westerman et al., 2022

Males: Monorchic, testis on right-hand side of intestine. Spicules paired and symmetrical, straight and relatively thin conoid, 0.7-0.8 abd long No pre- or post- cloacal sensilla or supplements.

Distribution:

Described from from the gill chambers of Scylla serrata (Forsskal), a land crab, in the island of New Caledonia (southwest Pacific Ocean).
