Type species of the genus: Paramphimonhystrella elegans Huang & Zhang, 2006

Synonyms:

Morphology and Anatomy:

With general characteristics of family Xyalidae, and:

Cuticle smoothe or with fine strations
Buccal cavity deep, conical-elongated instead of typical conical shape of genera in the Xyalidae, without tooth
Cephalic setee (6+4) (characteristic of the family Xyalidae) plus numerous cervical setae
Amphids oval or circular, double-walled
Large caudal glands (three)
Anterior testis on left and posterior testis on right side of the intestine (also characteristic of the family Xyalidae)
Type species, P. elegans has amphids with ovoid fovea and spicules with a small hook at the distal end.
P. minor and P. sinica differ from P. elegans in having spicules with a sharp tip and spicules with a blunt tip, respectively.

Males:

.Diorchic: anterior testis on left and posterior testis on right side of the intestine
Spicules slender with either sharp of blunt tips.
Gubernaculum absent

Body size range for the species of this genus in the database - Click:

Marine nematodes. Three species have been desacribed from the Yellow Sea of China (Huang and Zhang, 2006; Venekey et al., 2014). Other species have been described from sediments at 55-60 m depth in the Western Pacific and the continental slope of New Zealand at depths up to 1350 m (Leduc, 2014)..
