Morphology and Anatomy:

With general characteristics of family Xyalidae, and:

 

Females:

  • Monodelphic with long postvulvar uterine sac.

  
   

Males:  

  •  Monorchic, testis outstretched
  • Spicule shape unusual, non-cephalate, with distal knobs.
  • Gubernaculum absent

Distribution:

Sphareotheristus was initally described by Timm (1968) with four species from the Gulf of Thailand. New species have been described from the coast of Vietnam (Venekey et al., 2014).
