Type species of the genus: Guitartia tridentata Armenteros, Vincx & Decraemer, 2010.

Genus name in honor of the late Prof. Dr Dario Guitart of the University of Havana, Cuba, who trained several generations of marine biologists in Cuba.

Morphology and Anatomy:

Distinguishing features of the genus are:

 

Females:

  •  Monodelphic, prodelphic, ovary  outstretched ovary, located to left of intestine,
  • Post-vulvar sac present.

Males:  

  • Monorchic, outstretched testis located to left of intestine.
  • Gubernaculum with short dorso-caudal apophyses.

Distribution:

Free-living marine nematodes. Type species described from muddy bottom sediments at Cienfuegos Bay, Caribbean Sea.
