Morphology and Anatomy:

The genus Terschellingia (Nematoda: Linhomoeidae) was erected by De Man (1888) based on the following characteristics:

• cuticle finely striated
• four cephalic setae and four subcephalic setae
• buccal cavity minute or absent
• circular amphidial fovea located far forward on the head region.
• Esophagus with non-bulbular posterior expansion
• Tail conico-cylindical with tounded tip, or filiform in posterior half; no terminal setae

Distribution:

The genus name refers to the origin of the type specimens which were collected at Terschelling Island in The Netherlands.

Actually, species of this genus are cosmopolitan and very often numerically dominant in muddy subtidal ocean sediments
