Morphology and Anatomy:

Body shape stout.
Labial sensilla indistinct; four short cephalic setae present.
Amphideal fovea large and loop-shaped in males versus small and loop-shaped or cryptocircular in females.
Ocelli absent.
Opening of buccal cavity terminal, cup-shaped, may be weakly cuticularised.
Pharynx cylindrical, without posterior bulb.
Secretory-excretory system with two to four pairs of renette cells located subventrally, except in P. curtus, which apparently lacks a secretory-excretory system.
Tail conical.

Female reproductive system with two outstretched ovaries;

Males:

Diorchic, testes outstretched
Spicules short; gubernaculum present or absent, without apophyses.
