Morphology and Anatomy:

Cobbionema differs from all other genera of Selachinematidae in having a sphincter muscle around the anterior buccal chamber.

Cobbionema can be distinguished from Halichoanolaimus by the cephalic sensilla being setiform and not papilliform.

Cobbionema can a be distinguished from Choniolaimus by the absence of terminal pharyngeal bulb

Females:
  • Didelphic, amphidelphic, ovary branches reflexed antidromously.
  • Vagina straight, without cuticularizations, surrounded by single sphincter muscle.
  • Vulva midventral, a transverse slit.
  • Rectum absent.

Males:  

  •  Diorchic, with outstretched anterior testis and reflexed posterior testis.
  •  Spicules paired and symmetrical, elongate, consisting of two sections separated by a constriction, nearly straight, with rounded manubrium, subcylindrical shaft, or short with bifid tips.
  • Gubernaculum reduced  to two sublateral crura, arcuate conoid in shape, flanking distal part of spicules.
  • Precloacal supplements 1 to 5, setose or papilloid, midventral.
