Morphology and Anatomy:

Species described from a single male specimen

Hopperia macramphida male. a. anterior (buccal cavity, cephalic setae, amphidial fovea
and pharyngeal bulb); b. posterior (spicules, gubernaculums, precloacal supplements and
caudal glands; c. male cloacal region

Males:  

  • Body cylindrical, tapering slightly towards anterior.
  •  Cuticle punctated from level of amphidial fovea to near tail tip; lateral differentiation of irregularly-spaced larger dots.
  • Head set-off by depression at level of cephalic setae. Inner labial
    sensilla not seen, six outer labial papillae and four cephalic setae (4 um long) in separate circles.
  • Amphidial fovea spiral, five turns, 96% of body diam wide, located immediately posterior to cephalic setae,
  • Anterior portion of buccal cavity cup-shaped.; posterior portion cylindrical, cuticularized, 5 um wide, 30 um deep, with three strongly cuticularized teeth at border with anterior portion.
  • Pharynx cylindrical with terminal bulb; cardia short; ventral gland large located posterior to cardia; excretory pore 110 um from anterior
  • Diorchic, testes opposed, outstretched, anterior to left and posterior to right of intestine.
  • Spicules paired, equal, arcuate, 1.4 cbd. long, with swollen proximal end and central internal 1/3 of length from proximal end.
  •  Gubernaculum with bent dorso-caudal apophyses
  •  papilliform precloacal
    supplements,
  • Tail 122 um long, conico-cylindrical with clavate end, bearing several short caudal setae and three terminal setae.
  • Three caudal glands

Distribution:

Collected  i sublittoral zone in the East China Sea. at depth 43 m;  muddy sediment with a little sand fraction.
