Morphology and Anatomy:

 Genus Platonova differs from other known Synonchinae by:

Characteristics:

Male:

  • Diorchic, testes opposed and outstretched.
  • Spicules curved, gubernaculum with dorsal and ventral processes.
  • Pre-cloacal ventromedian supplement and subventral pre-cloacal sensilla present.

Female:

  • Amphidelphic; gonads antidromic; gonads opposed and reflexed.

Distribution:

Deep-sea nematodes; species of the family Leptosomatidae are reporterd to occur frequently in macrobenthic samples from the North-Western Pacific ocean. Reportd at depths of 3300 to 4500 meters below sea level in the Kuril–Kamchatka Trench and adjacent areas.
