A family of free-living soil-inhabiting nematodes.
General Characteristics of Mydonomidae:
Cuticle dorylaimoid; usually smooth, rarely with transverse striations or longitudinal ridges.
Llip region continuous or slightly offset, occasionally cap like; lips rounded, usually amalgamated;
Odontostyle short, asymmetrical or not typically tubular, lumen distinct; odontophore straight or arched;
Basal expansion of esophagus cylindrical and < 1/3 esophagus length
Female genital system didelphic-amphidelphic or mono-opisthodelphic;
Male spicula dorylaimoid; ventromedial supplements spaced, 1–20;
Tail variable, short and rounded to elongate or filiform, similar or dissimilar in sexes.
