         Caloosia longicaudata (Loos, 1948) Siddiqi & Goodey, 1963

Caloosia longicaudata is the type species of the genus.

Morphology and Anatomy:

 

 

Female:

  • Body slightly ventrally curved when heat killed
  • Cuticular sheath absent
  • Cuticle with widely-separated striations
  • Lateral field anot demarcated
  • Labial refgion with 2 annules, separated from each other and from first body annule by constrictions
  • Body striations (annuli) smooth and rounded
  • Stylet long, slender, with knobs anteriorly sloping
  • Esophagus with broad isthmus amalgamated with pear-shaped terminal bulb
  • Vulva a transverse slit with overhanging anterior lip
  • Monovarial, prodelphic, vagina slightly sigmoid
  • Spermatheca oval, containing rounded sperm
  • Tail elongate, becoming filiform

Male

  • No stylet, esophagus degenerate, poorly developed
  • Lateral field not visible
  • Spicules straight, gubernaculum not distinct
  • Bursa peloderan, ending before tail tip
  • Tail tapering gradually to a finely-rounded terminus
