Family Odontopharyngidae

                                 Revised 02/03/26

Classification:

Phylum Nematoda

  Class Chromadorea

    Subclass Chromadoria

Order Rhabditida

              Suborder Rhabditina

Superfamily Odontopharyngoidea

          Odontopharyngidae Micoletzky, 1922

In recent phylogenies, the superfamily Odontopharyngoidea is placed within the suborder Rhabditina of the order Rhabditida by DeLey and Blaxter (2002, 2004) and DeLey et al. (2006).

Characteristics:

The two genera in the Odontopharyngidae, Odopntopharynx and Zullinius are distinguished by the large globose stoma and the absence of an elongated telostome in Odontopharynx.

Males differ in the size and shape of the small right spicule and absence of a dorsal apophysis on the gubernaculum in Odontopharynx (Chitambar and Noffsinger, 1989).
