          Aphelenchidae (Fuchs, 1937) Steiner, 1949

Morphology and Anatomy:    

Family characterized by large metacorpus (median bulb), esophageal glands
      usually not enclosed in a bulb (overlapping). Dorsal esophageal gland
      opens into metacorpus.

 
      Maggenti suggested that the Aphelenchina are an earlier evolutionary group than the Tylenchina.

• Stylet with or without small basal thickenings.
• Esophagus with overlapping glands, or contained in posterior bulb.
• Spicules long, slender; gubernaculum V-shaped.
• Caudal alae present or absent, when present, pelodearn, supported by ribs.
• Soil inhabiting fungivores.
