          Aphelenchidae (Fuchs, 1937) Steiner, 1949

Morphology and Anatomy:    

Family characterized by large metacorpus (median bulb), esophageal glands
      usually not enclosed in a bulb (overlapping). Dorsal esophageal gland
      opens into metacorpus.

 
      Maggenti suggested that the Aphelenchina are an earlier evolutionary group than the Tylenchina.

Type Genus.--Aphelenchus Bastian, 1865
