Characteristics:

• cuticle annulated, may have somatic setae/

• cephalic setate present

• simple unispiral or "shepherd's crook" amphids.

• buccal cavity spall, usually without teeth

• espophagus usually with but sometimes without terminal bulb.

• Females diovarial.

• Males with prominent tubiform supplements.

• Spinneret and caudal glands present

• majority are marine or inhabit brackish water.

• feeding habits of some are uncertain, but many are bacterivores and some may feed on algae.
