Axonolaimidae Filipjev, 1918
A family of free-living marine nematodes
Cuticle smooth or striated.
Inner labial sensilla not visible, six outer labial papilla and four cephalic setae in separate circles, cephalic setae always longer than outer labial sensilla.
Buccal cavity large, funnel-shaped or cylindrical, with cuticularized walls; odontia may be present in anterior portion of buccal cavity.
Pharyngeal tubes present.
Amphidial fovea usually loop-shaped, sometimes pore-shaped.
Male usually with two testes and female usually with two (seldom one) outstretched ovaries.
Spicules always short, gubernacular apophyses usually present.
Tail conical or conico-cylindrical.
