A family of nematode parasites of fish.

• Oral opening elongated dorsally

• Esophastome with bilateral symmetry

• Esophageal lumen reinforced with cuticularized rods

Cucullanus spp are ometimes classified in family Chitwoodchabaudiidae as subfamily Cucullaninae.  However, the family designation Cucullanidae is more generally accepted.
