Deladenus siricidicola is considered an effective biological control agent of Sirex noctilio of Sirex noctilio, Fabricius, 1793 (Hymenoptera: Siricidae), which attacks logs. Of 1,810 adult insects that emerged from pine logs, (1,441 males and 369 females), 267 males and 74 females were parasitized by nematodes, a total of 341 parasitized insects (18.84%) (Fenili et al., 2000).
Sirex noctilio (Hymenoptera: Siricidae) and Amylostereum areolatum (Russalales: Amylostereaceae).
Deladenus siricidicola has two phases to its life-cycle; in the free-living phase it feeds and reproduces on the symbiotic fungus Amylostereum areolatum growing on wood; in the parasitic phase it infects larvae of S. noctilio larvae, which results in their development to sterile females. The nemtode is vectored to new trees by the parasitized S. noctilio females (Postma et al., 2019).
