Morphology and Anatomy:

The genus Serpentirhabdias was proposed by Tkach et al. (2014).

The genus is characterized by a relatively thin body cuticle, arrangement of lips in two lateral groups, fewer eggs than other related genera, homogony in the life cycles, and host restriction to snakes.

Based on the above criteria, coupled with molecular studies, 14 species of Rhabdias were transferred to Serpentirhabdias (Tkach et al., 2014; Morais et al., 2017).
