Morphology and Anatomy:

 

  • Body length 0.9-1.9 mm, slender to very slender
  • Cuticle very finely striated, appearing almost smooth
  • Lateral field inconspicuous, two incisures
  • Labial region continuous with body contour; six lips only slightly separated
  • Cheilostom and gymnostom wider than stegostom
  • Esophagus short, 15-20% of body length with istmus at least half the length
  • Tail elongate conoid with pointed or finely-rounded tip.

Female:

  • Genital tract panagrolaimoid - monodelphic, prodelphic
  • Postvulval sac without flexures
  • Vulval lips closed, not protruding
  • Oviparous or viviparous
  • Reproduction by protandrous hermaphroditism - the scme gonad peroduces first sperm and later ova.

Males:

  • Rare
