        Synonyms:

    In a 3-year study in Poland, Fedorko and Stanuszek (1971), often found a gonochoristic Pristionchus species on Colorado potato beetles and cockchafers and named it Pristionchus uniformis.

    Extensive research on this and other Pristionchus spp. conducted in the laboratory of  Ralf Sommer, Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology, Tubingen, Germany.

    Feeding:

    Herrman et al. (2006) could not find evidence of  a parasitic relationship between any Pristionchus species and beetles. Thus, the genus Pristionchus is not actively involved in killing the beetles. Rather, the nematodes feed on the carcass of the dead beetle, a phenomenon that has been called necromeny.� In contrast to these observations, observations, Fedorko and Stanuszek (1971) described Pristionchus uniformis as a facultative parasite of  beetles because in some cases the nematodes had invaded the insects  body cavity.

    The nematodes feed on bacteria but also are predators of other nematodes

    Pristionchus uniformis is a gonochoristic nematode that has been found on the Colorado potato beetles (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) at several locations. It has also been found on cockchafers.  In a 3-year study in Poland, Fedorko and Stanuszek (1971), often found a gonochoristic Pristionchus species on Colorado potato beetles and cockchafers and named it Pristionchus uniformis.
