Morphology and Anatomy:

  •  Body long, cylindrical, slender.
  • Cuticle transversely striated, lateral alae absent.
  • Lips low, inner and outer labial papilla indistinct.
  • Cheilostom hexaradiate with a cuticularised ring and six anteriorly directed projections. Gymnostom and stegostom absent or stegostom funnel-shaped to tubiform.
  • Amphid foveah large, unispiral with wide groove, located one to two head diam. from anterior end.
  • Cervical and somatic setae present or absent.
  • Pharynx cylindrical with posterior oval bulb, muscular. Cardia embedded in intestine. TYPE SPECIES L. decraemerae gen. n., sp. n. OTHER SPECIES L. coronatus (Ditlevsen, 1930) comb. n. = Cricolaimus coronatus Ditlevsen, 1930 RELATIONSHIPS Lavareda n. gen. is distinguished from Cricolaimus by the structure of the cheilostom, which has a hexaradiate symmetry with a cuticularised ring bearing six anteriorly directed projections vs bilateral symmetry with a lateral axis, with a cuticularised oblique ring, higher dorsally and ventrally than laterally, with two anteriorly directed clawlike projections in Cricolaimus. Furthermore, Lavareda gen. n. has low lips with indistinct inner and outer labial papilla whereas Cricolaimus is characterised by lips merged into one large dorsal and one large ventral lip with elongated inner and outer labial papillae and lateral lips and their inner and outer sensilla reduced. The amphidial fovea is located 1-2 head diam. from the anterior end in Lavareda gen. n. vs ca one head diam. from the anterior end in Cricolaimu
