Plectida Gadea, 1973

• Order established by Gadera, 1973 for several families previously placed in the orders Araeolaimida, Chromadorida, Monhysterida and even Enoplida.
• Classification of tthe taxon is cotroversial and still remains unsettled and the oredr is considered a mixture of paraphyletic and/or misplaced families  (Holovachov & De Ley 2006)
• The most recent classification at an order and family level (De Ley & Blaxter 2002, 2004) was assessed mostly on the basis of only one family, Plectida Orley, 1880, which with members of the genera Plectus Bastian, 1865 and Tylocephalus Crossman, 1933 were used in molecular phylogeny (Blaxter et al. 1998).
•  Lorenzen (1981) rejected the proposal for a separate order for plectids
