Two subgenera may be recognized: Arcaeobulura Quentin, 1969 and Labiobulura Quentin, 1969

The genus Labiobulura parasitizes the caecum and colon of bandicoots (Peramelidae) and bilbies (Thylacomyidae) from Australia and an endemic species of rodent, Leptomys (Muridae; Murinae), from Papua New Guinea (Smales, Citation2009).
