Spiroxys
Type species of the genus: Spiroxys contortus (Rudolphi, 1819) Schneider, 1866
Synonyms:
Two groups of Spiroxys spp. can becharacterizae by the presence or absence of spines or teeth on the pseudolabia or collar and on the median median lobe of each pseudolabium:
Group 1. Species with spines or teeth present. This group contains S. contortus, S. constrictus, S. gangeticus; S. japonicus; S. amydae; S. allegheniensis, S. algericus, S. corti; S. susanae; S. trirerodens; S. gubernae; S. figueredoi and S. utahensis.
Group 2. Species with spines and teeth absent:; S. annulatus, S. chelodinae and S. transversalata.

Adults of the genus Spiroxys are mainly parasites of the stomach and duodenum of freshwater saside-neck turtles of the family Chelidae. They have, also been found in frogs, salamanders and colubrid snakes. (Berry, 1985).
