Morphology and Anatomy:

Males:

• Length 13-17 mm x 70-80 um wide

• Spicules unequel (left short, (200-215 um) thin without a spatulate termination; right 70-80)

• Tail 23-26 um long

Females:

•  About 40 mm long x 100 um wide

• Vulva is 450-490 um (about 19% of body length) from anterior end

• Tail bluntly rounded tail, 140-155 uµm long.

• 186-288 um long

Life Cycle:

Intermediate host required

• Microfilariae are taken up during feeding on an infected host by mosquito species, mainly Mansonia, Anopheles, and Armigeres spp.
•  The microfilariae develop in the mosquito to the infective L3 in 9-11 days.
• Cats and dogs are infected, during a mosquito blood meal, with the L3 that molts to the L4 in 8-9 days and then to adults in 23-27 days.
• The prepatent period in cats is 69 - 96 days. (Dzimianski et al., 2020).
