Parasites of herbivorous and omnivorous reptiles.
Note: Parapharyngodon was considered a synonym of Thelandros by Baylis (1936) but Freitas (1957) reinstated Parapharyngodon to accomodate those species of Thelandros in which males had lateral alae. More recent work by Adamason (1981) indicates that Thelandros (sensu lato as defined by Petter & Quentin, 1976) can be divided into two genera (Parapharyngodon) in carnivorous reptiles and the other (Thelandros) in herbivorous and omnivorous reptiles. Currently, Parapharyngodon is assigned to the family Pharyngodonidae (Bursey and Goldberg, 2005).
