Lungworms
Representative species of Vogeloides include V. felis from the bobcat (Felis rufus) in west Texas, USA, V. servalis from the serval cat (Felis serval) in Africa, and V. exilis from the mongoose (Herpesters caffer) in Africa (Chabaud and Biocca, 1950; Biocca and Chabaud, 1952; Pence and Stme. 1977).
Food Sources and Feeding strategies for the genus Vogeloides
Lungworm parasites of bronchioles of mammals.
Lungs of bobcats heavily infected lungs with V. felis may appear mildly edematous; numerous nematodes are observed in primary and secondary bronchioles. Immediately adjacent to an infected bronchiole a patchy interstitial pneumonia with edema of the alveolar septa, hypertrophy of smooth muscle, and a basophilic alveolar infiltration may occur (Pence and Stone, 1977).
