Nematodes of the
genus Setaria Viborg, 1795 of the family Setariidae have wide
distribution and parasitise a wide range of animals.

For example, they
parasitize both even- and odd-toed ungulates of Uzbekistan (Sultanov et al.,
1975) as endoparasites of the abdominal cavity and decrease growth and
productivity of the hosts.

Species
diversity, pathogenicity and ecological characteristics of these parasites
have not been well studied .

Setaria parasites
have been collected from the abdominal cavity of animals of the families
Equidae, Suidae, Bovidae and Cervidae, which are definitive hosts..

Mosquitoe, (Anopheles
and Culex spp., Diptera) associated with the definitive hosts,
transmit the nematodes

In Uzbekistan, the
family Equidae (horse, donkey) were infected only with S. equinа,
at an infection rate between 25.5 and 40.0%; Host family Suidae (pig)
was infected with S. bernardi at an infection rate between 0.5 and 0.3%.

Bovidae
(cattle and goat) infected by S. digitata at a rate between 1.0 and
5.0% and by S. labiatopapillosa.

Cervidae (Bactrian
deer and roe) infected by S. cervi at a rate 1.0–5.0%.

Camelidae
(camel), infected by S. labiatopapillosa at a rate between 2.0 and
35.5%.
