Free-living marine nematodes.

Members of the Draconematinae have general characteristics of the family Draconematidae

  • Free-living marine nematodes
  • Pharynx dumbbell-shaped with swollen anterior corpus and posteriorbulb with unthickened lumen wall in bulb.
  • Swollen anterior body conspicuous and short
  • Cephalic adhesion tubes with open tips, blister-shaped, located on helmet
  • Acanthiform cepahlic seate may also be present on helmet
  • Buccal cavity narrow, unarmed.
  • Posterior adhesion tubes short and straight (except Draconema trispinosum with some longer tubes), with bell-shaped tip. In males, all posterior adhesion tubes are anterior to cloaca (except in Dracograllus eira and D. minutus). In females, all posterior adhesion tubes are anterior to anus except in most Dracograllus species.
  • Copulatory thorns rare.
  • Paravulvar seta present or not.
  • Tail cylindro-conoid with numerous annules.
