Mesodolichodera andina was reported from a potato field in Peru in 2020. The nematode was moprphologically identical to a nematode described as Thecavermiculatus andinus by Golden et al (1983), which had been reported Jatala et al (1979) as a Globodera sp from several non-solanaceous plants in the vicinity of Lake Titicaca, Peru. Thecavermiculatus was synonymized with Atalodera by de Souza and Huang (1994). Based on morphological and molecular differences between Thecavermiculatus andinus and nematodes in the genus Atalodera, Subbotin and Franco (2022) thransferred it to a new genus (Mesodolichodera) and a new subfamily of the Heterodeiridae, Mesodolichoderinae.
