Type species of the genus:  Bakernema inaequale (Taylor, 1936) Mehta & Raski, 1971

Morphology and Anatomy:

Female: Body stout, fusiform, 0.42 to 0.55 mm long.

Cuticle thick, 63-70 annules, bearing membranous cuticular structures or transparent spine-like projections on head and posterior margins of body annules. 

Labial area not set off, with three annules, submedian lobes small.  Labial framework thickly sclerotized.  

Stylet 64-72  µm long.  

Vulva with strongly developed overlapping anterior vulval lip.  Vulva on fourth to seventh annule from terminus, anus on third annule.  

Tail bluntly rounded.

Male: Four lateral incisures.

Caudal alae small.

Spicules 36-48  µm long.

Juveniles: Annuli without cuticular ornamentation, but may be irregular or uneven.
