Type species of the genus Epicharinema keralense Raski, Maggenti, Koshy & Sosamma, 1982

    Synonyms:
      None.

As of 2021, this is the type and only species is Epicharinema keralense.

Morphology and Anatomy:

  • Body lomg (1.1-1.4 mm) and very slender
  • Tapers towards head region and then expands at head, providing a bottle-shaped anterior region.
  • Cuticle smooth with a few striations detected near head by SEM
  • Stylet long, knobs and shaft robust but cone reduces to an extremely slender tip.
  • Metacorpus valvulated and well developed; postcorpus glands slighly overlapping intestine..

Female:

  • Monodelphic prodelphic
  • Vulva with a delicate vulval flap on anterior lip that obscures the opening.
  • Tail long, filiform

Male:

  • Caudal alae extend posteriorly
  • Gubernaculum long and simple.
  • Body narrows abruptly behind the cloaca to a long, filiform tsail
