- Globodera mexicana
(Campos-Vela 1967) Subbotin, Mundo-Ocampo and Baldwin, 2010
Globodera mexicana is very closely related with, and produces
viable offspring with, Globodera pallida. However, the two
differ in host range and Subbotin et al (2010) found that G.
mexicana is molecularly and biochemically different from all other
Globodera species.
Some nomenclature problems were caused by thwe original description being
in a PhD thesis rather than a peer-reviewed publiction. Based on
morphometric and biochemicalsimilarities, the nematode was variously
considered similar to G. tabacum and G.virginiae. However, recent
molecular analyses confirm the difference from other Globodera species and
Subbotin et al (2010) re-established G. mecicana
n.sp.
