Review general characteristics of the genus Meloidogyne.

Morphology and Anatomy:

Clearly differentiated molecularly from all other Meloidogyne spp, (Subbotin et al., 2015).

Distribution:

Described from aoil and roots around wild olive trees (Olea europaea) in northern Morocco. However there was no evidence of parasitism on the roots.

Economic Importance:

Feeding:

Sedentary endoparasite.

Feeding site establishment and development typical of genus.

Hosts:

Associated with wild olive  (Olea europaea subsp europaea cv sylvestris), but no evidence of parasitism on the roots.  Since the nematode did reproduce on tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) which is the only known host, tomato was designated as the type host of Meloidogyne spartelensis (Ali et al., 2015; Subbotin et al., 2015).
