Morphology and Anatomy:

The genus Nothotylenchus was established byThorne for species of Anguinidae with indistinct metacorpus bulb that is not muscular, does not have a valve, and thsat is not used in active feeding (guinid species with the median pharyngeal bulb indistinct, non-muscular, non-valvate, and not assisting in active feeding (Esmaeli et al., 2016).

.

  • Median bulb not differentiated, valve lacking.
  • Deirids present.
  • Lip region flattened, head frame weak.
  • Stylet delicate.
  • Nothotylenchus is close to Ditylenchus in its general appearance, its esophagus differs in that it has a vallveless underdeveloped metacorpus compared to the well-developed, muscular, valvate metacorpus of Ditylenchus.
  • Postcorpus pyriform, not ovrtlapping intestine.

Female:  Monovarial, prodelphic.

Columned uterus with four rows of 4-9 cells. The gonad differs from Ditylenchus mostly in the columned uterus.

Ref: Esmaeli et al., 2017

Males:  When present, with gubernaculum and leptoderan bursa.

Economic Importance:

Only a few species are parasites of higher plants, most are mycophagus (Esmaeli et al., 2017).

Feeding:

Phytoparasitic species are ectoparasites, probably feeding mainly on root hairs. Probaly all species can feed on fungi in the absence of plant hosts.
