General Characteristics:
-
Large vermiform
body, ca 2 mm long.
-
Cuticle finely
annulated, lateral field with 4-8 lines or more, eight
lines around mid-body region, and four lines observed in
anterior and posterior ends of lateral field.
-
Deirid present
in middle of lateral field around level of posterior end of
pharyngeal glands and cardia.
-
Head not clearly
separated from other parts of body, lip region squarish-rounded
in lateral view, separated into six lip sectors, lateral sectors
less developed than other four.
-
Stylet with narrow
lumen; conus > half of total stylet length; shaft with laterally
extended basal knobs.
-
Excretory pore
opening ventrally at level of stylet shaft. Secretory-excretory
duct directed posteriorly
-
Dorsal gland
orifice just posterior to stylet knobs.
-
Pharynx with
cylindrical procorpus, weakly developed median bulb with
small valve;isthmus and large, broad glandular gland lobe.
-
Nerve ring
surrounding posterior part of isthmus. Hemizonid visible at
level of middle to posterior part of gland lobe.
-
Anterior end of
intestine (= pharyngo-intestinal junction or cardia) overlapping
posterior end of gland lobe, forming funnel-shaped junction.
|
Male:
- Monorchic, testis outstretched.
Spermatocytes
arranged in single row; amoeboid sperm formed in
posterior end of testis
- Testis merges into vas deferens which merges with rectum
into a cloacal
tube around anterior of spicule.
- Three (one dorsal and two
subventral) rectal glands.
- Spicules typical of anguinids,
ventrally arcuate with squared
manubrium.
- Spicules separate but with tips angled towards each
othe.
- Gubernaculum
simple crescent tor bow-shaped; ca one-third of
spicule in length.
- Bursa well developed, peloderan, arising at
level of manubrium of retracted spicule.
- Tail conoid, bluntly
pointed in lateral view.
|
Female:
- Body cylindrical, ventrally
arcuate when killed by heat
- Monodelphic-prodelphic; ovary outstretched.; gonad consisting of ovary, oviduct, spermatheca,
crustaformeria, uterus, vulva/vagina and
post-vulval uterine sac (PUS).
