This species was originally described as Aphelenchoides heterophallus from sugar cane infected by fungi in Jamaica (Steiner, 1934) and was transferred to Parasitaphelenchus Fuchs, 1929 by Rühm (1956), mostly because of its male tail characters (Kanzaki, 2021).
