Note: Parapomponema is generally considered a synonym of Pomponema Cobb, 1917.  Characteristics like alternating rows of fine and coarswe puncttions  are not considered sufficient to justify its separation from Pomponema (Cidreira et al., 2019).

Morphology and Anatomy:

Males:  

  • Diorchic, testes opposed, outstretched.
  • Spicula weakly cuticularized, arched, with median rod, 1.1-1.3 cbd long
  •  Gubernaculum f a simple, slightly bent median piece and two lateral, L-shaped pieces,
  • Pre-caudal supplements, consisting of an outer plate and an inner plate, joined by a constriction.

 

Females:

  • Didelphic, amphidalphic; ovaries reflexed\
  • V at 59% of body length.

Distribution:

Collected in ecological investigations of the nematode fauna of a fine sand flat at Wrightsville Beach, north of Wilmington, North Carolina. Samples taken at various depths in the sediment at about the midtide level (Ott, 1972)
