Note: Propomponema is generally considered a synonym of Pomponema Cobb, 1917.  Characteristics like alternating rows of fine and coarswe puncttions  are not considered sufficient to justify its separation from Pomponema (Cidreira et al., 2019).

Females:

  • Didelphic, amphidelphic

Males:  

  • Spicula large, simple,
  • Gubernaculum with lateral flanges bearing blunt teeth
  • Diorchic, testes opposed, outstretched

Distribution:

Type species, Propomponema hastatum collected in ecological investigations of the nematode fauna of a fine sand flat at Wrightsville Beach, north of Wilmington, North Carolina. Samples taken at various depths in the sediment at about the midtide level (Ott, 1972)
