Type species Cornurella fonsecae Da Silva, Da Silva, Esteves & Decraemer, 2017: The genus name is derived from the Latin cornu, referring to the horn-like ornamentation at the base of the cephalic capsule..

Synonyms:

Morphology and Anatomy:

cuticle clearly annulated and ornamented with eight longitudinal rows of spines
lateral field differentiated by an additional set of three longitudinal rows of setae
well-developed cephalic capsule with horn-like ornamentationnear the base
amphideal fovea closed loop-shaped, situated on a cuticular plate that extends nearly over the whole length of the helmet; fovea narrower in females
precloacal region with intermingled setae and papillae.

Females:

didelphic amphidelphic, ovaries reflexed and on left of intestine.
No spermathecae nor sperm observed.
Vagina vera sclerotized.
Tail conical.

Males:

monorchic, with anterior outstretched testis left of the intestine.
twelve precloacal setae and ten papillae anterior to the cloacal opening, intermigled
Spicules extremely long, about 7 cloacal body diam long), filiform, only slightly curved
gubernaculum without dorsal apophyses.

Type species, C. fonsecae, described from Campos Basin (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), station 11 on the continental slope, water depth: 25 m, 2 cm surface layer of sediment.
