      Longidorella Thorne, 1939
 Type species of the genus: Longidorella parva Thorne. 1939

Several genera of the Nordiidae are considered subgenera of Longidorella by some authorities.(e.g. Siddiqi, 2007).

Morphology and Anatomy:

  • Short, robust nematodes < 1mm long. 
  • Long needle-like odontostyle and odontophore rod-like.
  • Long esophagus (about 1/3 of body length), widening abruptly in posterior region.
  • Females usually diovarial, amphidelphic.
  • Males rare with 2 to 9 ventromedisan supplements.
    (Jairajpuri and Ahmad, 1992; Andrássy, 2009)

Considered to be a plant-feeding nematode that, based on molecular evidence, evolved from an omnivorous ancestor (Holterman et al., 2008; Yeates et al., 1993).
