Type species of the genus: Stenodorylaimus textilis (Thorne & Swanger, 1936) Alvarez-Ortega & Pena-Santiago, 2011

The genus was erected following examination of old materaial in the USDA Nematode Collection that was collected by Thorne and labelled variously as Pungentus and Dorylaimus.
