Morphology and Anatomy:

The genus Scalpelus is characterized by:

• continuous lip region with amalgamated lips\
• outer and inner labial papillae close to each other
• wine-glass-shaped amphid,
• wide asymmetrical scalpel-like odontostyle
• rod-like odontophore
• short hemispheroid tail

Distribution:

The type-species, S. loofi was described from a bromeliad growing on tree branches about 1m above soil surfacel in a forest in Costa Rica.
