Classification:

Enoplea
                        Aporcelaimidae

Aporcella Andrassy, 2002

Type species of the genus: Aporcella gibberocaudata Andrassy, 2002

Distinguished from Aporcelaimellus by lacking pars refringens vaginae.

Although classified in the Aporcelaimidae as of 2019, molecular studies indicate that Aporcella does not share a close relationship with other Aporcelaimidae (Naghavi et al., 2019).

Morphology and Anatomy:

Diagnosois of the genus per Alvarez-Ortega et al (2013) and Vazifeh et al., (2021)
  • Body length 1.05-5.0 mm; moderately slender.
  • Cuticle of two or three layers differing in refrqaction.
  • Labial region offset from body contour either by distinct constriction or expansion of lip area.
  • Odontostyle short and thick; aperture more than half of odontostyle length.
  • Odontophore rod-like; guiding ring simple.
  • Esophagus expanding gradually, basal expansion of esophagus about half of total length.
  • Female gonad didelphic, amphidelphic; vulva transverse, V=45-62..
  • Vaginal canal a simple tube, sclerotized pars refringens vaginae absent.

Aporcella generally resembles Aporcelaimellus Heyns 1965 but lacks the sclerotized pars refringens of the vagina.

It differs from Metaporcelaimus Lordello, 1965 based on the rounded to conical tail with regular inner core versus the conical tail with irregular or notched inner core
