Morphology and Anatomy:

.

 Female:
  • Nematodes of medium size, 1 to 2 mm long.
  • Cuticle typical tylencholaimoid with inner layer apparently separate from outer layer.
  • Lip region cap-like, offset from body contour by a constriction. Cheilostom a truncate cone with walls weakly sclerotized, thick around oral aperture.
  • Odontostyle thin with very narrow lumen and minute aperture; shorter than lip region width.
  • Odontophore with slender walls, often slightly arcuate.
  • Anterior of esophgaus expanding gradually into a cylindrical or pyriform basal bulb which occupies about 1/5 of total esophagus length.
  • Pre-rectum very long.
  • Female genital system didelphic, amphidelphic.
  • Vulva longitudinal. Pars refringens vaginae generally well developed.
  •  Tail similar in sexes: short, rounded to conoid, with mucronate or acute tip.

 

Males:  

  • dorylaimid spicules and 4 to 10 spaced ventromedian supplements.

Mostly terrestrial but some freshwater species.
