Loncharionema Goseco, Ferris & Ferris, 1974

Goseco et al (1974) erected the genus Loncharionema for saome species from Puerto Rica that did not fit in any other of the leptonchid genera.-

Type species of the genus: Loncharionema brevibulbum Goseco, Ferris & Ferris, 1974.

Morphology and Anatomy:

Females:

  • Vulva transverse.
  • Gonad monodelphic-prodelphic.

Males:  

  • Diorchis, testyes outstretched.
  • Spicules dorylaimoid with lateral guiding pieces.
  • An adanal pair and a series of well-spaced ventromedian supplements.

Distribution:

Two species described from soil samples collected fgrom the Loquillo mountain range and El Yunque Rain Forest in Puerto Rico by John and Virginia Ferris in 1964.

Feeding:

   Family Leptonchidae classified as hyphal feeding; exact feeding habits of Loncharionema spp. unknown (Yeates et al., 1993)
