Morphology and Anatomy:

The species were originally listed by Heyns and collegaues in the genu Thonus. Heysnema was erected to accommodate species of Thonus with a unique combination of characters:: cuticle dorylaimoid, lip region cap-like, pharyngeal expansion occupying about 60% of total neck length, female genital system amphidelphic, pars refringens vaginae lacking or very reduced, tail rounded conoid and similar in both sexes, and 7-10 contiguous ventromedian supplements  Heynsnema resembles several qudsianematid and tylencholaimid genera; it is provisionally classified under the family Tylencholaimidae by Pena-Santiago et al (2008)..
